Description

Set of three hand-painted wooden decorative boxes, made in Shanghai in the 1950s. The three pieces have a rounded, domed shape, a removable lid, and are decorated with characters inspired by Chinese folk tradition.

The surfaces, set against a dark background, are enriched with hand-painted figurative scenes featuring male, female, and child faces, executed with a narrative, artisanal, and slightly naive touch. The warm hues of pink, ochre, orange, and blue create a pleasant contrast with the background, making the set particularly decorative.

Perfect as ornamental potiches, lidded containers, or decorative boxes, these objects are ideal for bookcases, sideboards, console tables, and eclectic or Asian-inspired interiors.
