Description
Venetian wall lamp from the 1950s made of polychrome glazed ceramic, depicting a sailor in a dynamic pose. The figure has a strong sculptural and decorative quality, wearing a white uniform, blue collar, red and white striped shirt, sailor’s hat, and gold details.
The subject holds a golden bottle in one hand and a luminous sphere in the other, making the object a combination of a functional sconce and an ornamental ceramic figure. The glossy glaze enhances the colors and accentuates the theatrical character of the composition, typical of certain mid-century Venetian production. The work is stamped and signed on the back.
Similar figures in polychrome glazed ceramic were also produced by artists such as Otello Rosa for the same factory, within the Venetian decorative tradition of the 1950s.
